Use of reinforcing geosynthetics in geotechnical engineering

In this diploma, parametrical analysis was done and it was examined how to improve embankment, soft soil and supporting structure by installing geosynthetics. Building process for all structures was explained. When checking parametrical analysis, recommendation of the German design of reinforced earth with geosynthetics, Empfehlung für den Entwurf und die Berechnung von Erdkörpern mit Bewehrungen aus Geokunststoffen (EBGEO) wasudfollowed. Ultimate limit state of structures was checked with focus only on the proofs related to the dimensioning geosynthetics. In the case of soft soil, proof of installation geosynthetics requires the design according to serviceability limit state as well. Parametric analysis was performed by a computer program Excel, so the corresponding shear of parameters as a function of other data was varied. Results of the investigation are given in the form of graphs. For all cases, the minimum and maximum short-term tensile strength of geosynthetics, the minimum coefficient of friction between the composite geosynthetic and soil, the number of geosynthetic straps and a length that is expedient to fit into the design was set.
