Mangalore coast is well known for its multi-speciesudand multi-gear fisheries and the fishery and oceanographicudfeatures of this region is a true representationudof the Malabar upwelling system. Ten years of studyud(1995–2004) of oceanographic parameters has beenudcarried out from the inshore waters off Mangalore toudunderstand their seasonal and interannual variationsudand influences on the pelagic fishery of the region.udAttempt has been also made to understand the influenceudof local and global environmental conditions onudthe alternating patterns of abundance between theudIndian mackerel and oil sardine from the area.
