摘要
A method and system for generating a contact surface definition involving low-order and second-order finite elements (QFE) in a FEA model used to numerically simulate a collision event is disclosed. The FEA model is organized by one or more groups of finite elements. Each group represents one of the parts of the product and is identified by a part ID. Furthermore, this FEA model consists of one or more contact surface definitions for detecting contacts between parts due to collision events. For each determined group determined to have QFE, a new group is created. This new group is associated with a unique partial ID. Contact segments for the new group are then generated according to a set of predefined rules to redistribute one or more geometric shapes associated with the QFE. Contact surface definitions are updated by replacing each determined group with a new group.
