PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To design a gas lift pump by scaling up from the experimental gas lift pump, from which it is possible to extract a characteristic curve serving as a reference for pump characteristics under a wide operating condition from the experimental result of the experimental gas lift pump. SOLUTION: The experimental gas lift pump having an experimental riser pipe smaller than the riser pipe of the gas lift pump is used to measure the pump characteristic including the change in the pump characteristic with respect to the change of the inflow velocity of the liquid in the experimental gas lift pump. .. A flow coefficient φ and a lift coefficient ψ are obtained from the pump characteristics, and a characteristic curve 1 showing the change of the flow coefficient φ with respect to a change of the specific speed Ns which is a ratio of the flow coefficient φ to the lift coefficient ψ, the specific speed A characteristic curve 2 showing the change of the lift coefficient ψ with respect to the change of Ns and a characteristic curve 3 showing the change of the pump efficiency η with respect to the change of the specific speed Ns are extracted.
