A control system 8100, for a vehicle (10, fig 1) operable in an autonomous mode and a non-autonomous mode has one or more controllers. The system 8100 receives (8410) environment data indicative of an environment of the vehicle and, when operating in a non-autonomous mode, a goal signal indicative of a navigation goal of the vehicle (8420). The controllers, after receipt of the environment data and the goal signal, identify an availability of subsequent navigation of the vehicle, operating in an autonomous mode, into a desired vehicle orientation at the navigation goal. The controllers output a navigation signal to cause the vehicle, operating in the autonomous mode, to navigate autonomously into the desired vehicle orientation at the navigation goal. The subsequent navigation may be a parking procedure.
