A method, system and non-volatile computer readable medium for determining a pseudo-optimal charging algorithm for a particular battery are disclosed. An electrochemical battery model is characterized based on the physical properties of a special battery. An optimal charging profile is determined for the special battery using the high-precision electrochemical battery model. A pseudo-optimal loading profile is determined, which comes very close to the optimal loading profile. However, the pseudo-optimal loading profile consists of simple components that can be easily and efficiently implemented in integrated applications with limited computing power / storage capacity. An optimization process is used to determine optimal control parameters for the simple components, triggering conditions and threshold values, as well as adaptation parameters for adapting the pseudo-optimal charging profile when the battery ages.
