Apparatus and method for inclined rolling a cylindrical workpiece (W), preferably a seamless tube blank made of steel, the workpiece (W) in the rolled state having a longitudinal opening extending along a workpiece axis (A) and the apparatus: several rollers (10 ) whose axes of rotation (R) are inclined relative to the workpiece axis (A) so that when the rollers (10) rotate in the same direction, the workpiece (W) is plastically deformed in the roller gap and transported along a conveying direction (F); and an inner tool (20) which is set up to form the longitudinal opening by being insertable into the workpiece (W) during rolling; wherein at least one of the rollers (10) is mounted so that the roller gap can be adjusted under load.
