The invention relates to a method and a device suitable for use for the method in order to produce a foodstuff which has a casing element and a filling therein or consists of it. In the method a filling is applied to a flat envelope element and then the envelope element is folded up, e.g. around a bending line running centrally along the enveloping element, so that by folding the enveloping element is arranged around the filling and encompasses it. The method and the device have the advantage that the enveloping element can be moved without a mechanical gripper and can be folded up without sticking to the device.
