The invention relates to a towing roller hollow axle (1) for arranging a towing roller (2) on an escalator step (30), a first end (4) of the towing roller hollow axle (1) being designed to apply a towing roller (2) to the towing roller hollow axle (1) , and wherein the trailing roller hollow axle (1), starting from the first end (4), has an arrangement section (6), a connecting section (7) and a securing section (8). The arrangement section (6) is designed to arrange a trailing roller (2) on the trailing roller hollow axle (1), the connecting section (7) is designed to connect the trailing roller hollow axle (1) with an escalator step (30) to a corresponding axle receptacle (31). This escalator step (30) can be connected, and the securing section (8) is designed to provide a captive device for the trailing roller hollow axle (1) which is inserted into an axle receptacle (31) of an escalating step (30) (1), an escalator step with such a trailing roller hollow axle (1) and a passenger conveyor with a large number of such escalator steps. Finally, the invention relates to a method for mounting a trailing roller (2) on an escalator step (30) using a trailing roller mounting set.
