The present invention relates to an antimicrobial composition comprising as an active ingredient diflorethoxy hydroxycarmalol (DPHC) derived from marine brown algae. Diflorethoxyhydroxycarmalol derived from the marine brown algae shell of the present invention is excellent in inhibiting proliferation against Staphylococcus epidermidis, Propionibacterium acnes or Candida albicans. It has an effect that can be usefully used in the prevention and treatment of diseases caused by pathogenic infections.
