Disclosed are a portable electronic terminal device capable of downloading a background theme through recognition of a two-dimensional code attached to an accessory for a portable electronic terminal device, and a method of operating the same. The present invention recognizes a two-dimensional code attached to an accessory for a portable electronic terminal device, extracts a unique identifier for identifying the accessory for the portable electronic terminal device therefrom, and uses the unique identifier and a corresponding background theme to a theme providing server. The present invention relates to a portable electronic terminal device capable of receiving background theme data corresponding to the unique identifier from the theme providing server after requesting data transmission, and an operating method thereof.
