The present invention relates to a privacy protection device for an image monitoring system to protect privacy without increasing a storage space and a privacy protection method using the same. According to the present invention, the privacy protection device for an image monitoring system comprises: a decryption unit decrypting a compressed image stream transmitted from a camera to generate a recovery image and transmitting the received compressed image stream and the recovery image to a face detection unit; the face detection unit detecting a facial area from the recovery image received from the decryption unit and transmitting detected facial area information and the compressed image stream to a steam separation and encryption unit; the steam separation and encryption unit referring to the detected facial area information received from the face detection unit to separate a portion corresponding to a facial area and a stream corresponding to a non-facial area from the compressed image stream, encrypting the stream corresponding to the facial area and transmitting the same to a stream storage unit; the stream storage unit storing an encrypted facial area stream and a non-encrypted non-facial area stream received from the stream separation and encryption unit, transmitting the encrypted facial area stream and the non-facial area stream to an image playback unit when user authentication confirmation is received from a user authentication unit, and transmitting only the non-facial area stream to the image playback unit when the user authentication confirmation is not received from the user authentication unit; the user authentication unit confirming and authenticating a user ID to transmit user authentication confirmation information to the stream storage unit; and the image playback unit playing the stream received from the stream storage unit to help real-time monitoring, recorded image monitoring, and the like and, when the encoded facial image stream is received from the stream storage unit, decrypting the encoded facial image stream, and integrating the same with the non-facial area stream to generate and provide an integrated stream.;COPYRIGHT KIPO 2020
