The present invention is directed to temperature-treated polycrystalline porous Al 2 O 3 sieves having α aluminum oxide in an amount greater than 97% by weight, other oxide alloy components in an amount of less than 3% by weight in total, and macroporosity of 5 to 30% by volume. As related, wherein the Al 2 O 3 sieve consists of a plurality of Al 2 O 3 primary tablets having a crystallite size of 20 to 100 μm.
