An apparatus and method for determining SOC of a battery of an electric motor vehicle are disclosed. The method of determining SOC of a battery of an electric powered vehicle according to the present disclosure may include: calculating a first SOC of the battery at a time when braking of the electric powered vehicle is started; (B) calculating a current of the battery at specific time intervals when the braking is maintained; (C) calculating the measured SOC by accumulating the measured current of the battery when the braking is terminated, and calculating the second SOC of the battery at the time when the braking is terminated; And (d) determining a final SOC value of the battery when the braking is terminated by using the first SOC, the second SOC, and the measured SOC.
