It provides a composition for inhibiting granine aggregation from non-toxic low molecular weight form to toxic high molecular weight aggregated form and/or dissociating high molecular weight aggregated form into low molecular weight form. Such compositions typically include one or more active compounds or agents, which may also be referred to herein as degrading compounds. Using the compounds and compositions described herein, i) a method of controlling, inhibiting or preventing the interaction of granine with metal ions, ii) a method of controlling, inhibiting, preventing or dissociating aggregated granine of granine , iii) a method of reducing or inhibiting cytotoxicity, and iv) a method of treating or preventing dementia or Alzheimer's disease, and v) a method of treating or preventing Parkinson's disease and/or Huntington's disease.
