According to an embodiment of the present invention, provided is a device for performing an adaptive test based on the item response theory. The device for performing an adaptive test comprises: a communication unit performing data communication to collect test item information and data communication to transmit test information to a subject device; a storage unit classifying and storing the item information for testing of a predetermined number or greater in an item bank; and a control unit performing an adaptive test based on the item response theory in response to a test request. The control unit includes: a test performing unit progressing the adaptive test in a method of selecting and presenting the item corresponding to an expected ability value of a subject within the item bank; and a test preparation support unit measuring an item parameter for new items acquired from outside and evaluating whether the item is registered in the question bank.
