The invention relates to a method (1; 10; 40) for determining remaining useful life cycles of a production apparatus (20; 73) based on wear, comprising the steps of: determining (2; 11; 41) a first state value of a maintenance variable of a part of the production apparatus (20; 73) based on sensor data of a sensor for the production apparatus; and determining (3; 16; 49) a future use cycle of the part of the production apparatus (20; 73) for which the maintenance variable has a previously specified second state value, wherein the future use cycle is determined based on the first state value and based on a discrete stochastic degradation model.
