The shear box includes an upper shear box and a lower shear box which are symmetrical and abut against each other through concave and convex structures. The upper shear box is provided with a protrusion, and the lower shear box is provided with a groove. After assembly, a cavity between the protrusion and the groove is used to place a simulated fault filled specimen. A serrated plate is respectively connected to a horizontal surface of the protrusion and a horizontal surface of the groove by fixing bolts to simulate a fault wall surface. Both undulation angle and height of serrations are adjusted as needed to change a roughness of a simulated fault. An ultrasonic transducer is provided in the lower shear box under the groove to measure an acoustic emission (AE) signal of the active fault during shearing. The shear box features a simple structure, convenient assembly, flexible use, good airtightness, good compatibility with the existing testers, and strong applicability.1/6 9 10 13 FIG. 1
