A Sus scrofa vaccine virus against African swine fever (Armenia/07) and genotype II derivatives). A field isolate of ASFV known as Lv17/WB/Rie1 is obtained and characterised in this invention. The Sus scrofa vaccine virus strain against African swine fever (Armenia/07 and genotype II derivatives) was isolated from a wild boar hunted in Rietumpieriga (Engures, Smardesu), Latvia, in February 2017. The virus has been characterised as the first non-haemoadsorbent (no-HAD) ASFV isolate from genotype II. The nucleotide sequence for the gene EP402R in the Lv17/WB/Rie1 vaccine isolate responsible for the HAD phenomenon contains a mutation in the reading frame. This modification is not present in HAD viruses from genotype II. The use of molecular techniques with specific primers for that full sequence will allow vaccinated and unvaccinated animals to be differentiated. In addition, the vaccine tests carried out show that this vaccine induces a very high level of protection, specifically 92.86%, against the highly virulent Armenia/07 isolate. Finally, the in vitro growth characteristics of the vaccine isolate Lv17/WB/Rie1 have been evaluated by culturing same in primary porcine peripheral blood monocyte (PBM) cultures obtained from the peripheral blood of domestic pigs. After a first pass of the vaccine virus in cell culture, the virus was collected to create a stock of Lv17/WB/Rie vaccine virus.
