The invention relates to a vehicle-to-X communication apparatus (10) comprising: - a receiving device (13), which is designed to receive a vehicle-to-X message, - a first electronic computing device (12), which is designed to ascertain a hash value of a received vehicle-to-X message, - a second electronic computing device (11), which is designed to generate a new vehicle-to-X message, using data included in the received vehicle-to-X message, and to ascertain a hash value of the generated vehicle-to-X message, wherein - the first electronic computing device (12) is designed according to a higher safety integrity level than the second electronic computing device (11), and - a comparator (12-3), which is designed to carry out a comparison of the hash value of the received vehicle-to-X message with the hash value of the generated vehicle-to-X message, wherein - the vehicle-to-X communication apparatus (10) is designed to carry out further processing of the data of the received vehicle-to-X message depending on the result of the comparison. The invention furthermore relates to a corresponding method and to the use of the apparatus in a vehicle or an infrastructure device.
