The invention relates to aA device for determining a consensus version of a transaction ledger of a database system distributed into a number of paths formed from by chained blocks, comprisinges: a first unit for obtaining a number of paths, wherein a respective path comprises a number of chained blocks; a second unit for determining a block quality of the respective block of the respective path; a third unit for determining a path quality of the respective path according to the block qualities of the number of chained blocks of the path; and a fourth unit for determining the path, from the number of paths, with the highest path quality and providing the determined path as the consensus version of the transaction ledger of the distributed database system. In this way, with a path-quality-based consensus rule, a more stable transaction throughput can be achieved and misuse can be prevented. The invention also relates to a method for determining the consensus version, and to a device and a method for monitoring a distributed database system.
