A method for assisting the driving of a vehicle (V) moving in a traffic lane (VC1) having a maximum authorised speed and comprising a traffic light (FT) emitting, via waves, messages containing information defining the durations of three phases of red, green and amber lights and the time remaining of the current light phase. This method comprises a step (10-20) that involves determining a piece of behavioural information (ic) representative of advice concerning the driving behaviour to follow to pass by the traffic light, taking into account the distance (dvf) separating the vehicle from the traffic light, the time remaining in its current light phase and the maximum authorised speed (vma), and displaying the current light phase of the traffic light (FT), this behavioural information (ic) and the future light phase that the traffic light will have when the vehicle reaches it if the behaviour advice is followed.
