A procedure for estimating a phase angle of a zero sequence voltage when a single-phase earth fault occurs in a distribution network, the distribution network comprising a phase A that has the earth fault, a phase B and a phase C, comprising the procedure: determining (S320) a type of earthing of the neutral of the distribution network; characterized in that the method comprises: detecting (S310) a phase angle φA of a phase A voltage, a phase angle φB of a phase B voltage and a phase angle φC of a phase C voltage; setting (S410) a magnitude FB of phase voltage B as a predetermined reference value; estimate (S420) the phase voltage A and the phase voltage C by using the magnitude of phase voltage B, the phase angle φA of phase voltage A, the phase angle φB of phase voltage B and the phase angle φC of the phase voltage C, based on the type of grounding of the neutral of the distribution network; and calculating (S430) the phase angle of the zero sequence voltage by using the phase voltage B and the estimated phase voltage A and the estimated phase voltage C.
