Heavy metal-containing waste water from processing and cleaning of fishing or pisciculture nets is purified by precipitating suspended and/or emulsified materials by flocculation; carrying out solid-liquid separation; precipitating dissolved heavy metals in the aqueous phase; separating the product into flocculated sludge and clear water by sedimentation; and dewatering the sludge. Purification of heavy metal-containing waste water from the processing and cleaning of fishing or pisciculture nets involves: (1) precipitating suspended and/or emulsified materials by adding primary flocculants and flocculating aids; (2) carrying out solid-liquid separation; (3) precipitating the dissolved heavy metals in the clear aqueous phase by adding primary flocculants, organic sulfide, alkali and flocculation aids; (4) separating the precipitated product and water from the previous stage into flocculated sludge and clear water by sedimentation and (5) dewatering the sludge so that at least the heavy metal-containing sludge has a solids content of 20-80%.
