Low friction butterfly ring, a butterfly valve to control the flow of a fluid into a hole, comprising a butterfly and at least a ring extending at least or substantially or completely around the perimeter of the butterfly and adapted to develop a force of expansion in the radial direction when at least one ring is contracted with respect to radial direction, at least one ring is kept in the contracted-state butterfly and the radial expansion due to the development of the expanding force of at least one ring is effectively restricted, with the butterfly valve being adapted to operate,when laid down in a hole, without friction, or substantially without friction, between at least one ring and the hole when the butterfly valve is arranged in the closed position within the hole.
