To provide a method for easily performing putrefaction suppression of pumpkin, lettuce, Welsh onion or eggplant after harvesting.SOLUTION: A putrefaction suppressing method includes irradiating pumpkin, lettuce, Welsh onion or eggplant with both red light and far-red light. The putrefaction suppressing method includes continuously radiating the red light and the far-red light alternately and singly for every 12 hours. Furthermore, the putrefaction suppressing method includes simultaneously irradiating pumpkin after harvesting with the red light and the far-red light continuously for at least 12 hours per day. In the putrefaction suppressing method, the light intensity of the red light is 2W/m2 directly under a light source, and the light intensity of the far-red light is 2W/m2 directly under a light source.SELECTED DRAWING: None
