Disclosed is a passive cooling system for a spent nuclear fuel assembly, the system comprising: a water storage tank filled with cooling water; a spent nuclear fuel assembly including a plurality of fuel rods and a plurality of guide pipes open at the top and bottom thereof and stored in the water storage tank; and a heat pipe module including a gasification unit configured with a plurality of branch pipes and a condensation unit communicating with the plurality of branch pipes, wherein the plurality of branch pipes are inserted in the plurality of guide pipes, respectively. According to the present invention, even when a cooling water pump of a spent nuclear fuel storage facility does not operate due to complete power loss accidents inside and outside a nuclear power plant, it is possible to passively remove decay heat of spent nuclear fuel by means of natural circulation of a heat pipe solvent to prevent severe accidents in advance, thereby enhancing safety of the nuclear power plant and the spent nuclear fuel. Further, the passive cooling system according to the present invention does not require complicated control of a cooling system so that it is possible to simplify the design of a safety facility and thus achieve a cost reduction effect.
