The present invention relates to the use of cannabidiol (CBD) for the treatment of tumors associated with tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC). In particular, CBD was able to reduce the number and size of marker cells, pS6 in the zebrafish model of TSC. This suggests a disease modifying effect that treatment with CBD may result in the reduction or prevention of benign tumors that develop in TSC patients. Preferably, the CBD used is a highly purified extract of cannabis so that the CBD is present at greater than 98% of the total extract (w/w) and the other components of the extract are characterized. In particular, the cannabinoid tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) has been virtually eliminated to levels below 0.15% (w/w), and the propyl analogue of CBD, cannavidivalin (CBDV), is present in amounts up to 1%. Exists in. Alternatively, the CBD may be a synthetically generated CBD. In use, CBD is given concurrently with one or more other drugs used to treat TSC. Such drugs may include rapamycin and/or everolimus.
