To provide a method for crushing a fixed sand layer of a transfer bed type sand filtration device which can crush a fixed sand layer generated in a filtration layer, and thus, restores circulation of filtration sands, and can stably keep filtration performance, a transfer bed type sand filtration device and a method for operating the transfer bed type sand filtration device.SOLUTION: A transfer bed type sand filtration device 1A in which raw water containing suspended substance is flown into a filtration layer 4 which is formed by filling filtration sands into a filtration tank 2, whereby the raw water is filtered, the filtration sands, which have been subjected to filtration, are cleaned while being lifted by a pump 3, and the cleaned filtration sands are returned to the filtration layer 4. In this filtration device, a fluid (compressed air) is injected to a fixed sand layer 35 which is generated in such a manner that the filtration sands are fixed by the suspended substance contained in raw water.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
