To provide a method for obtaining a manganese nitride particle group stably and at low cost by optimizing a composition and microparticulation condition for a manganese nitride raw material, the manganese nitride particle group exhibiting excellent negative thermal expansion in a wider temperature range even if a particle diameter thereof is small.SOLUTION: A method for producing a manganese nitride particle group of this invention includes obtaining a manganese nitride by crushing a manganese nitride raw material, the manganese nitride having a volume frequency center particle diameter (median diameter), measured by a laser diffraction/diffusion-type particle diameter distribution-evaluating method, of 3 μm or less and having negative thermal expansion.SELECTED DRAWING: None
