PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compression / restoration device for text data of a log capable of both full restoration and partial restoration, and a compression / restoration method, in which the speed of restoration of a compressed file is high. SOLUTION: A compression restoration device 1 includes a pattern fitting unit 10, a compression unit 20, and a restoration unit 30, and the pattern fitting unit 10 applies a pattern to a pattern of text data of a log for each unit. The pattern includes a fixed portion and a variable portion, and the compression unit 20 compresses the text data of the log, for each unit, including the pattern and the text data corresponding to the variable portion of the pattern. Compressed into data, the restoration unit 30 applies the text data corresponding to the variable portion to the pattern, and restores the text data of the log from the compressed data.
