To provide a testing for molecular detection of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) having a variant mecA gene.SOLUTION: A method for amplifying MRSA, in which a SCCmec cassette including a variant mecA gene is inserted into a Staphylococcus aureus chromosomal DNA, in a sample comprises a process of causing amplification reaction in the sample by using an oligonucleotide set. In the oligonucleotide set, hybridization with a specific region is detected. The method is particularly useful for excluding a specific false negative result due to the presence of the variant in the MRSA of a patient sample.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1
