A method of transmitting a document from a first party to a second party comprises steps of determining a sequence of m intermediate nodes, each intermediate node holding a private cryptographic key for which a corresponding public cryptographic key is known; encrypting the document sequentially with the public keys of the intermediate nodes of the sequence; transmitting the document to the holder of the public key with which the present document was last encrypted and decrypting the document using that holder's private key; repeating the previous step until all intermediate nodes in the sequence have decrypted the document; and delivering the document to the second party.
