A levitating guide shoe arrangement (20) and a method for guiding an elevator car (10) along a stator beam (22) of an electric linear motor (16) during an emergency condition are presented. A levitating guide shoe arrangement (20) for guiding an elevator car (10) along a stator beam (22) of an electric linear motor (16) during an emergency condition, the levitating guide shoe arrangement (20) comprising a levitating guide shoe (23) and a guide surface (35), wherein the guide surface (35) is comprised in the stator beam (22), and wherein the levitating guide shoe (23) is configured for arranging in an operating position (601) with respect to the guide surface (35) and comprises magnetic field generation means (40) for generating a magnetic field (45) that extends to the guide surface (35), wherein the arrangement (20) is configured to establish an air gap (41) between the levitating guide shoe (23) and the guide surface (35) by the magnetic field (45).
