The invention relates to a distance measuring method and a distance meter for a distance measurement based on the principle of a modulated continuous wave radar, at least part of a first laser radiation having a first frequency modulation (1A) defining a first modulation band (8A) and at least part of a second Laser radiation, which has a second frequency modulation (1B) defining a second modulation band (8B), is emitted as a first or as a second transmission radiation to a target. According to the present invention, a parameter (t sub TOIF /sub) is determined, which is indicative of a frequency offset between the first (8A) and the second (8B) modulation band, and the parameter (t sub TOIF / sub) is taken into account when determining the at least one distance to the target in order to derive a frequency difference (9) between the first frequency modulation (1A) and the second frequency modulation (1B).
