A steam generator for a cooking appliance (10) has an evaporator chamber (20), at least one heating register (22) arranged in the evaporator chamber (20), a first temperature sensor (24) with a temperature sensor (36) connected to the heating register (22 ), and a second temperature sensor (26) having a temperature sensor (38) disposed in the evaporator chamber (20) spaced from the first temperature sensor (24). Furthermore, a cooking appliance with a steam generator, a method for determining a filling state of a steam generator and a method for determining the calcification of a heating register in a steam generator are shown.
