A method for authenticating messages received from a receiver in a wireless network and transmitted by transmitters using a transmission protocol, the method comprising: receiving the messages at the receiver, each message comprising a lightweight computing authenticator and a heavyweight computing authenticator, wherein the lightweight authenticator is a message authentication key (MAC) for a timed efficient power loss tolerant authentication protocol (TESLA protocol) and wherein the heavy weight authenticator is a digital signature; separating the received messages in messages with a same transmitter identifier; determining if the lightweight authenticator is a digital signature valid message; discarding a message that does not have a valid lightweight authenticator; separately collecting messages that have a valid lei for each sender identification, performing a batch checking process on the messages having a valid lightweight authenticator for each sender identification to determine if a group of messages has a valid heavyweight authenticator for each sender identification; checking each message in the group of Messages when the bundle review process shows that the group of messages has a valid heavyweight authenticator; anddetermining the distance between a transmitter and the receiver and determining the dynamic movement of the transmitter and the receiver, wherein if the distance between the transmitter and the receiver is below a threshold and the dynamic movements of the transmitter and the receiver meet certain requirements, the message is authenticated using only the heavyweight authenticator, otherwise it is authenticated using the lightweight authenticator.
