The present invention relates to a gamma-metastable alloy powder comprising uranium and molybdenum, a powder composition comprising the powder, and the use of the alloy powder and the powder composition. The gamma-metastable alloy powder comprising uranium and molybdenum according to the present invention is formed from particles comprising a nucleus made of the alloy and an alumina coating disposed to contact the nucleus. Use: preparation of nuclear fuel components, in particular fuel components for experimental nuclear reactors; Preparation of targets for the production of radioactive elements which are particularly useful for medical imaging such as technetium 99m.
