Disclosed is the use of ginseng extracts, ginsenosides and ginsenoside derivatives in the manufacture of a medicament or health care product for the treatment of human cytomegalovirus infection-related diseases. Related diseases include patients suffering from cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, organ transplants, perinatal, tumors, burns, AIDS and other diseases infected by human cytomegalovirus during treatment. Experiments have shown that ginseng extracts, ginsenosides and ginsenoside derivatives are simple and effective for treating human cytomegalovirus infections, as they are significantly and quickly effective, less toxic, and less side effects in the treatment of human cytomegalovirus infection diseases. It is a safe, effective, stable medicament or health care product with a manufacturing process and demonstrates its suitability and ease of dissemination for industrial production. The present invention provides new sources of medicaments for treating human cytomegalovirus infections.
