The present invention relates to a single-shaft extruder 10 for altering the morphology of a superabsorbent polymer gel (SAP polymer gel) 24. The single-shaft extruder 10 includes an inlet 36, a duct 16, a worm shaft 12 and an outlet 30. According to the invention, the worm shaft 12 has a first pitch value G1 of the pitch G of the screw 14 along the conveyor zone 18 of the duct 16, downstream of the conveyor direction 20.
