Provided is a position detection device in which the entire area of a sensor can be used for both an electromagnetic induction method and an electrostatic coupling method. The present invention is provided with: a sensor in which a plurality of first electrodes are arranged in a first direction, while a plurality of second electrodes are arranged in a second direction that intersects with the first direction; and a signal processing circuit which detects positions indicated on the sensor by a plurality of indicators. The first electrodes and the second electrodes are each formed as loop electrodes. A selection circuit of the signal processing circuit, by selecting a first electrode and a second electrode in such a manner as to induce an induction current in each of the first and second electrodes, enables detecting, through electromagnetic induction, a position indicated on the sensor by a first indicator, and meanwhile, by selecting a first electrode and a second electrode in such a manner as not to induce an induction current in either of the first and second electrodes, enables detecting, through electrostatic coupling, a position indicated on the sensor by a second indicator.
