The group of inventions relates to methods for dissipating the energy of flows of liquids or gases and can be used in hydraulic and mechanical engineering. The group of inventions includes a method for dissipating the kinetic energy of a flow of a liquid and/or a gas, in which the direction of the velocity vector of a moving secondary flow relative to the velocity vector of a primary flow produces an angle of incidence of more than 180°, a cylindrical flow energy dissipator comprising a flow dissipation channel which gradually transitions at its inlet into a semi-cylindrical shaft having a curved generatrix in the form of a portion of an Archimedean spiral, a toroidal flow energy dissipator comprising a raceway, an annular chamber, and a converging portion, wherein the channel of the raceway of the flow dissipator terminates in the converging portion at the inlet to the annular chamber such as to be situated opposite to and at a short distance from the tip of the body of a solid of revolution having a curved generatrix in the form of a portion of an Archimedean spiral, a cascade flow retarder comprising a series of interconnected flow velocity dissipators in an amount greater than one throughout the length of a portion of a flow, a pacifying discharge portion in the form of a semi-cylindrical shaft sunk into a riverbed such that the level of the upper edge of the discharge portion is below the level of the riverbed, and an inclined apron is upwardly inclined from the lower edge of the semi-cylindrical shaft toward the riverbed, said apron widening at the point where it meets the river.
