The present invention relates to a heat exchanger for recovering heat contained in a first flowable material. The heat exchanger comprises at least a first and a further receiving receptacle, each with a cavity for receiving the first flowable material. The heat exchanger further comprises means for absorbing heat arranged to form at least a part of the bottom part of the receiving receptacles. The first flowable material is discharged from the first receiving receptacle and brought in contact with at least a portion of the bottom part of the further receptacle using means for directing said first flowable material in a direction not coinciding with the direct path towards the second drain. Said means for directing comprises a conduit mounted in communication with the first drain. The conduit discharges into the second cavity of the further receiving receptacle.
