A chemical reaction heating source for use in well application heaters is provided. the heating source has a solid fuel composition comprising termite and a binder. the binder serving to maintain the solid form of the solid fuel composition during combustion and to ensure a predetermined uniform heating pattern may be provided for a long time. The solid fuel composition may be provided in block form. The solid fuel composition may further be provided in the form of a plurality of fragments which, during combustion, behave more like pulverized termite and have the ability to flow.
