The present invention provides a method and device for conditioning a sleep signal from a sleep sensor to a sleep monitor. A sleep sensor is configured to detect a physiological signal, such as a cardiac or respiratory signal, from a mammal during sleep, such as a human being, for example an infant or a baby. If the mammal also exhibits (gross) body movement during its sleep, the sensor signal may be cut off. The method and device provide sleep signal conditioning by providing an estimate of the sleep signal rather than the conditioned sleep signal itself when the sensor signal is cut off.
