PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make a user aware of unloading or erroneous loading of a cartridge immediately.;SOLUTION: A recording apparatus comprises: reading means that carries out polling for determining a loaded state of a recording-material cartridge in each of loading positions determined in advance for respective recording-material colors and, in a case where one loading position where a state of the respective recording-material cartridge is changed from an unloaded state to a loaded state is detected, reads color information indicating the recording-material color from the recording-material cartridge loaded in the one loading position; and a notifying means that, in a case where the recording-material color indicated by the color information and a recording-material color corresponding to the one loaded position are different, notifies a user that a wrong recording-material cartridge is loaded in the one loading position.
