PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide high-density gain media with laser amplification based plasma confinement of gas laser gain media.;SOLUTION: Gas laser gain media 110 are compressed into plasma utilizing a self-reinforcing magnetic field referred to as a plasma pinch 108 (e.g., a flow stabilized z-pinch). In the pinch, the gas laser gain media are compressed to high density, which improves the gain of the media.
