To provide a method for quantifying elemental mercury in crude oil with high accuracy.SOLUTION: A measuring sample is prepared by adding a 6-10C aromatic hydrocarbon compound to crude oil so that its viscosity is controlled to be 0.5 to 7.5 mPa s. An inert gas is blown into the resultant measuring sample at a rate of 1 to 20 mL/min per mL of the sample for 15 to 240 minutes. An amount of elemental mercury originally contained in the crude oil is calculated from a difference in an amount of all mercury in the measuring sample between before and after the blowing of the inert gas.SELECTED DRAWING: None
