To provide a device having the function of decomposing a direction of contact between a touch probe and an AE sensor, and a machine tool comprising the device or the function.SOLUTION: In a machine tool comprising an X-axis, a Y-axis and a Z-axis, small oscillations are pre-generated at frequencies fx, fy and fz different from one another so as to decompose three directions, that is, X-Y-Z directions; the synchronous detection or frequency analysis of a touch signal of a touch probe is performed; and a contact direction is decomposed on the basis of which frequency component of the frequencies fx, fy and fz is changed or a rate of change.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 3
