A hybrid vehicle includes an ECU (300) and the ECU (300) is configured to execute inverterless traveling control. The inverterless traveling control is control for causing the vehicle (1) to travel by placing an inverter (221, 222) in gate cut-off states, and driving an engine (100). The ECU (300) interrupts motor current (IM1) flowing between a motor-generator (10) and a battery (150), when the shift range is a range other than forward ranges, during the inverterless traveling control. In such a vehicle, a method for performing the above-defined inverterless traveling control, in which the current flowing between the motor-generator (10) and the battery (150) is interrupted when a shift range other than a forward range is selected, during the inverterless traveling control (S180,S280,S430,S530).
